Supporting Those Who Serve: First Responders and Veterans

Our community is safer, stronger, and more resilient because of the dedicated service of our first responders and military veterans. Whether it’s protecting our neighborhoods or defending our country, they’ve put their lives on the line for us — and it’s time we show up for them.

Protecting First Responders

We owe it to our law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, and dispatchers to ensure they have the resources and respect they deserve.

  • Fund Life-Saving Equipment: I support legislation like H.R. 9745 – the Lifesaving Gear for Police Act, which provides critical funding for body armor, trauma kits, and upgraded communications tools. No responder should face danger without proper protection.
  • Prioritize Mental Health: First responders face trauma daily. I will advocate for confidential mental health services, mandatory post-incident counseling, and peer support programs that help prevent burnout, PTSD, and suicide.
  • Invest in Community Policing: As a long-term goal, I support community policing programs that build trust and transparency between law enforcement and the people they serve. A community should never be afraid of its police, and officers should feel respected and supported.

Honoring Our Veterans

Florida’s 6th District is home to tens of thousands of veterans — and many still face barriers to the care and stability they earned.

  • Improve VA Healthcare Access: I’ll fight to expand VA clinic capacity, telehealth access, and rural outreach, so no veteran is left behind due to wait times or distance from care.
  • Prevent Veteran Homelessness: With housing costs rising across our district, I will support increased funding for HUD-VASH housing vouchers, transitional housing programs, and partnerships with nonprofits to get veterans off the street and into stable homes.
  • Support Mental Health and Suicide Prevention: Veterans deserve quality mental health care, especially those living with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries. I support full funding of suicide prevention services and access to community-based providers when the VA falls short.
  • Support Alternative Therapies for PTSD: Veterans and first responders deserve access to evidence-based alternative treatments for PTSD, including acupuncture, yoga, equine therapy, MDMA-assisted therapy (where legally approved), and medical cannabis under appropriate clinical supervision. I support legislation and research funding that expands these options through the VA and certified providers. Healing is not one-size-fits-all — we must give veterans access to the full range of tools that work.
  • Expand Job Training and Career Support: I’ll work to strengthen the GI Bill, promote veteran-focused job placement and apprenticeships, and connect veterans to high-demand sectors like tech, healthcare, public service, and skilled trades.
  • Constituent Support and Benefits Navigation: The District offices will be a hub for veterans’ services — with dedicated staff members helping local vets navigate benefits, appeals, and federal resources. No veteran should have to fight alone for the support they’ve earned.
