As a proud supporter of the Second Amendment, I believe responsible gun ownership is a fundamental American right — and with that right comes the responsibility to keep our communities safe. We can uphold the freedoms of law-abiding citizens while taking smart, balanced steps to reduce gun violence. 

• I support requiring comprehensive safety training and firearm competency testing — much like we expect of anyone operating a vehicle. Gun owners should know how to safely handle, store, and use their firearms to protect themselves and others.
• I also support common-sense safeguards to prevent firearms from falling into dangerous hands, including strong background checks and restrictions for individuals with serious mental health issues or histories of violence. This isn’t about taking away anyone’s rights — it’s about ensuring that gun laws work as intended to protect families, schools, and neighborhoods across our district.

The vast majority of gun owners are responsible. Let’s build on that foundation with solutions that respect constitutional rights and prioritize public safety — because we can do both.
