A Structured, Fair, and Secure Immigration System

Our immigration system is broken — and pretending otherwise won’t fix it. As a Democrat running for Congress in Florida’s 6th District, I believe we need to face this issue honestly and work across the aisle to build a system that is smart, secure, and fundamentally fair.

Yes, we do have a problem. I see it here in Florida — people living in the shadows, and in some cases, committing crimes that impact our communities. But that does not mean we need a total purge or mass deportation. We can enforce immigration laws while still honoring our values and constitutional principles.

What I Support:

  • Secure Borders: We must protect our borders with modern technology, professional staffing, and clear entry policies. Security is essential — but a secure border doesn’t mean a closed nation.
  • Due Process for All: The Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution guarantee that “no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” These protections apply to all people, regardless of immigration status. That means fair hearings, legal representation, and humane treatment must be non-negotiable.
  • A Path to Citizenship: We need a clear and achievable path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who’ve built their lives here, followed the rules, and contributed to our economy. This includes DREAMers, long-time residents, and mixed-status families.
  • Legal and Safe Work Programs: I support well-regulated seasonal and temporary visa programs that allow immigrants to work legally and safely — with protections against wage theft, abuse, or intimidation. If you’re doing the work, you should have rights.
  • Focused Enforcement, Not Fear Tactics: Immigration enforcement should prioritize threats to public safety — not families, students, or workers who pose no danger. We must use our resources wisely and humanely, not politically.
  • Bipartisan Reform That Works: Immigration reform has stalled for far too long. I will work with both Republicans and Democrats to pass comprehensive, lasting reform — one that reflects security, compassion, and constitutional integrity.

We are a nation of laws — but also a nation of values. We can secure our borders, protect our communities, and still uphold the rights guaranteed by our Constitution. America is strongest when it leads with both strength and decency.
